My work explores the naive fears, dreams, and blurred limits between reality and fantasy experienced during the beginning stages in our lives. Like a crackling lullaby on an old phonograph, bordering between the eerie melancholy of nostalgia and the contented reminisce of childhood. Letting my mind wander to those faded fever dreams of chickenpox and picture books, I attempt to draw out the vulnerability of youth. A time when everything and everyone was new. When there was no line between the real and fantastic, when our minds were vulnerable. There was potential without limits.

The mixed media works are painted in oil on Plexiglas and layered inside found objects. The depth and mystery the layers create in the Plexiglas pieces are intended to resemble an old Disney cartoon, with layered animation cells. Many of my pieces are inspired by the impact children’s cinema and literature has on the imagination, and overall childhood experience.
